Topping our list of the Best Hotels in Europe is the Hotel Innsbruck. It is located in the quaint city of Innsbruck in western Austria which borders Munich and Verona. The Hotel Innsbruck received a very impressive score of 4.8 out of 5 and also occupied the top spot in the best "Dining experience" category! This no. 1 hotel can be found on the banks of the Inn river in this charming destination.

Ranking at number two is the Hotel Marques de Pombal in Lisbon, Portugal. Not only does this charming 4* boutique hotel feature uniquely decorated rooms but, guests can also enjoy additional services which include a gym with personal trainers, and a hammam and sauna. Furthermore, the hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Lisbon beside one of the main avenues, Avenida Liberdade. The Hotel Marques de Pombal was also awarded the top spot in the "Design/Style", "Cleanliness" and "Room" categories. Coming in at number three is the Hotel Bahia, a little gem located in Santander, Spain. Perfectly located right in the centre, this 4* hotel boasts impressive views and came in at number two of the rankings for the "Cleanliness" and "Room" categories.

Finally, completing the coveted first five spots in the "Top 10" rankings are the Wellington Madrid in Madrid, Spain, and the Hotel Roma in Prague, Czech Republic. The Wellington Madrid is situated beside the stunning and iconic Retiro Park, and rated third in the "Hotel service" category whilst the Hotel Roma ranked third for best hotel "Design/Style".

In our Best Hotels in Europe study we also wanted to list those hotels that were voted top-rated amongst UK travellers. The results are as follows:

Occupying the top spot is the Park Plaza County Hall hotel in London with a very respectable score of 4,636, closely followed by the Park Plaza Victoria with a score of 4,500 thus earning them second place in the rankings. Ranking third is the lovely Lancaster hotel in London whilst voted in at number four is the Thistle Marble Arch. Finally, completing the list is the Tower a Guoman hotel in London awarded fifth place by UK travellers. Congratulations!!!

How customers are treated upon their arrival at a hotel contributes highly to how pleasant their overall experience can be. Is the service unrivalled? Is the concierge polite? Well, guests at the Wellington Hotel in Madrid ranked their service top-notch thus rewarding the hotel with an excellent score of 4.800 and the top spot. The 5* Wellington Hotel is located in the charming Salamanca district and boasts free WiFi, marble bathrooms, a sun terrace, a gym and much more. Awarded second place in the "Best service" category is the lovely Hotel Innsbruck in Austria, with the third place going to the charming Hotel Marques de Pompal in Lisbon.

Featuring clean, comfortable hotel rooms with nice views is a must to rank in the category for hotel with the best room. With an impressive score of 4.929, the 5* Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & Spa in Lisbon sailed their way to the top spot. Comprising the epitome of luxury, this elegant hotel boasts large and stylish rooms, with air-conditioning, a TV, and bathrooms featuring designer glass walls. The second place on the list has been awarded to the Park Plaza County Hall in London with rooms on the upper floors boasting views of the famous London Eye and the City of London. In addition to a big TV, guests can enjoy a large desk and microwave. Finally, the Hotel Bahia in Santander, Spain, occupies third place.

Value for money is a top priority when looking to book a hotel. Ensuring that the hotel provides high quality for the best price is very important. The Holiday Inn Express in Alicante, Spain appeared to offer just that as customers awarded the hotel the top spot and an impressive score of 4.834. The Hotel Vetusta, in Oviedo, Spain followed close behind with second place and the third was awarded to the Hotel Innsbruck in Austria.

Nothing completes a great stay in a hotel than great food. Here the Hotel Innsbruck once again demonstrated their superiority with a score of 4.625 and the top spot in the "Best dining experience" category. It's clear why as the options are impressive. Breakfast in bed, a breakfast buffet, a bar and restaurant with organic food earned them first place. The 4* boutique hotel H10 Itaca in Barcelona, Spain, was awarded second place. The restaurant there offers typical Catalan dishes and a generous variety of delicious cocktails. Finally, coming in at third place is the Barcelo Jerez Montecastillo located in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. This converted castle comprises a 4* hotel with a great restaurant.

The 5* Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & Spa took the prize for best design and style with a respectable score of 4.857. Not only does this elegant hotel boast luxurious rooms but, guests can enjoy stunning views of Lisbon from the restaurant, cocktail bar and rooftop. The H10 Itaca Hotel in Barcelona occupies the second spot in this category whilst the third place belongs to the 4* Eurostars of David hotel in Prague, Czech Republic.

A clean hotel means happy guests. In the best hotel for "Cleanliness" category, the Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & Spa in Lisbon excelled with an almost perfect score of 4.929. Second place was awarded to the Hotel Bahia in Santander, Spain, and the third spot to the Savhotel in Bologna, Italy.
