What is the weather in Krakow?
Krakow’s climate is classed as ‘humid-continental’. Average daily temperatures in the month of January vary between 23°F and 34°F, while in August they range from around 56°F to 75°F. Krakow has many indoors and outdoors attractions, and terrific events that are staged throughout the year, so many visitors choose when to visit based on when those occur, rather than on the seasons. What to see in Krakow?
As you might expect of Poland’s second largest city, there’s a lot to see and do in Krakow. Here are a few suggestions for places to visit during your holiday in the city.
Museums – Krakow takes its history and culture seriously, and its many fine museums are proof of that. You can visit the National Museum in May Street (Maja), the National Art Collection at Wawel Hill, and many others, including the Rynek Underground Museum and the Polish Museum of Aviation.
Music venues and events – Poland has a strong association with classical music, thanks to composers such as Chopin and Penderecki. The main concert hall is the Filharmonia Krakowska, which is home to the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra. There are also events such as the Misteria Paschalia, staged at various times of the year, showcasing early Polish music. Jazz, rock and pop music concerts and venues are also well represented in Krakow, and include Cemetery Pub – Grodska 42, renowned for metal and hard rock gigs, and Harris Piano Jazz Bar.
Nightlife – According to urban legend, Krakow has more bars and clubs per square mile than anywhere else in the world. Whether it’s true or not doesn’t really matter. What matters is that there are many, and most are terrific, with a great atmosphere. City favourites include Hard Rock Cafe, Irish Pub Pod Papugami, and Le Scandale. Popular venues for clubbers include Floranska and Szewska.
Parks and Gardens – As it’s a busy city, you might want to briefly escape Krakow’s hustle and bustle and visit any of its lovely parks and gardens. These include the beautiful Botanic Gardens east of the Old City, plus Planty Park and Jordan Park. All are well-tended and very relaxing green spaces to spend an hour or two in.
