Checked baggage allowance

  • The checked baggage allowance for passengers flying with Air Canada varies depending on the flight destination. For most flights operated by the airline, passengers are entitled to checked baggage with dimensions that do not exceed 158cm. Baggage that exceeds this size will be subject to an oversize charge.
  • The weight of checked baggage should not exceed 23kg per item. Baggage that exceeds this limit will be subject to an overweight charge.
  • Each passenger is entitled to 1 free item of checked baggage. Additional baggage is available for a fee.
  • All infants, regardless of age, are entitled to the same baggage allowance in terms of the weight and size constraints of adult passengers.
  • Sports equipment may be checked into the cargo hold provided and shall be charged according to weight and size. Sports equipment bags and cases must not contain clothing or other personal items and must only be used to carry sports equipment.

Online check-in

  • Online check-in for Air Canada flights is available for all passengers flying from Canada as well as most US and other international destinations. Check-in is available 24 hours before the scheduled flight departure and closes 60 minutes before take-off.
  • Passengers checking in online for an Air Canada flight are able to select their preferred seat on-board the flight via an interactive seating plan.
  • Online check-in is available for all passengers with a valid Air Canada booking reference as well as relevant travel documents including passports and visas for international flights.
  • Passengers are also able to check in at the airport from 12 hours before the scheduled flight departure. There will be no extra charges incurred for passenger’s checking in at the airport.

Cabin luggage allowance

  • Passengers are entitled to 1 item of cabin luggage with dimensions no greater than 23cm x 40cm x 55cm. An additional small item such as a handbag or laptop bag may also be brought on-board the flight provided it is no larger than 16cm x 33cm x 43cm.
  • Cabin luggage has a maximum weight limit of 10kg. Cabin luggage weighing over 10kg will be subjected to additional charges or, in some cases, not admitted onto the aircraft at all. This also applies to any extra items.
  • Each passenger may carry 1 item of cabin luggage plus an additional item provided they meet the size and weight specifications of the flight.
