Flying with Icelandair

With headquarters in their capital city Reykjavík, Icelandair is the main airline of Iceland. Icelandair schedules services to 39 cities in 16 countries across Europe and North America. Iceland’s unique geographical positioning between the European mainland and North America allows for 1 stop transatlantic flights, which are the pillar of the airline's business strategy. Founded in 1937, the airline operates using a relatively young fleet (average age of 20 years old) of 26 Boeing 737-767 aircraft. Icelandair has codeshare and interline agreements with a number of highly acclaimed airlines including Aeroflot, Finnair, Air Canada, Air France, Air Greenland, AirBaltic, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Czech Airlines, Emirates, Frontier Airline, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines and United Airlines. Icelandair has adopted a strict environmental policy in keeping with Iceland's image as an environmentally friendly country. As such, many steps have been taken to reduce the airline’s carbon footprint.

Online check-in

Passengers can check-in online for flights to Europe and Canada within 36 hours of the flight’s departure and within 24 hours for flights to the US. Check-in closes 60 minutes prior to departure for all destinations.
Mobile check-in is also available for many destinations. Passengers flying to Boston (BOS), Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, New York, Orlando, Portland, Seattle, and Washington DC are able to check in via mobile, but still need to acquire a boarding pass from the check-in desk at the airport.
Self-service check-in kiosks are available at Keflavik Airport, Copenhagen Airport, Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Oslo Gardemoen Airport, Billund Airport, and London Heathrow Airport. Airport check-in is available for all flights and is free of charge.

Cabin luggage allowance

The size of all cabin luggage on Icelandair operated flights should not exceed 55cm x 40cm x 20cm.
The maximum weight for cabin luggage items is 10kg.
Each passenger is entitled to 1 free item of cabin luggage. Additional cabin luggage can be purchased during the booking process. In addition to standard cabin luggage, each passenger may carry one small personal item, such as a small handbag or laptop. Oversized or over weight baggage will be stowed in the cargo hold of the aircraft and will be subject to check baggage fee.
Passengers travelling with infants aged less than 2 years not entitled to a seat can carry strollers or carrycots as additional cabin luggage provided there is space in the cabin.

Checked baggage allowance

Checked baggage for all Icelandair flights to Europe and North America cannot exceed a total of 158cm in size.
The maximum weight allowance for a single item of checked baggage is 23kg on an Icelandair flight. This may be increased to 32kg per item for a fee.
Each passenger is entitled to 1 item of checked baggage for free. Additional baggage can also be booked for a fee, provided it meets the weight and size limitations defined by the airline. Passengers travelling with infants aged less than 2 years old are permitted to check baby strollers and carrycots free of charge. Infants themselves are entitled to the same baggage allowance as adult passengers.
Icelandair has a special price structure for sports equipment, which is divided into three size categories: small, medium and large. All items of sports equipment will be charged according to which category they fall into.
